Has anyone tried breeding S. carolinas before? I have a healthy adult female who's getting old enough to breed and a very handsome male who just molted perfectly. I raised the female from the ooth and I'm hoping to have another generation from her. The male I found while on a rainy day walk- I took off one of my wellies and carried him home in that, while he was still L6.

Are they agressive or ok with mating- does anyone know? How many ooths should she lay before I should try to breed them again, or is once enough? Does anyone know how long it will take? How will I be sure that they're ready?

If you can answer any of these questions, it would be much appreciated.

I never found them to be too difficult really.

Yeah, I have a boy and a girl and they aren't too aggressive. Just Feed her a lot of food so she isn't hungry to eat the male. Also, make sure you watch her just in case. It takes 3-4 weeks for them to be ready to mate after molting to adulthood.

I breed them after two weeks and results are very good.

Like said before, feed her well before adding the male. My experience breeding Stagmomantis carolinas is that some males are just to slow, and some are like lightning bolts knowing how to approach the lady without loosing their head. If you only have one pair then be watching until they engage, after that even if he is dinner she will lay fertile ooths.

three to four weeks actually is not required, I had just bred a pair yesterday at both being only two weeks old. I didn't see the spermataphore, but she most likely ate it, I paired them again the next day, and the mating lasted about four hours longer then previous, I am certain she is fertilized now, but will try once again this weekend. Typical time for mating is six to ten hours. I found they are gentle even when not filled to the gills with prey.
