This picture really isn't of a high enough quality for me to be able to justify to myself the fact that I'm uploading it, but here it is anyway.

This is my little Budwing Mantis, Keynes, which I got for my birthday about two weeks ago. I also received a bonus "mystery mantis" (which I believe to be an Indian Flower Mantis, but we'll have to wait until she gets bigger to know for sure), but I haven't gotten any pictures of her yet. Her name is Hayek, btw.

I had a heck of a time trying to get the camera to focus on her. Hopefully if I keep working at it, I'll learn some trick and will be able to do better next time. I'd love to get some advice on photographing mantises, if anyone has any to ofter. ^^

I like this pic; your mantis obviously has the "right" stuff", curiosity, bravery, I bet he recycles, too.

One question about your forum name that didn't occur to my aging mind when you introduced yourself, shouldn't you be "PragmaticHominin"? Just wondering! :D

Is she more green or brown in her coloration tint? I've been working on properly identifying these silly little creobroters (genus) for a few months now. Little spot on the abdomen?

Phil - thanks, lol. She doesn't seem to mind me poking at her with the camera.

Hominid is correct, and so is Hominin. Hominid is a wider category, which includes all the non-human great apes (excluding orangutans) as well as modern humans and all our extinct ancestors. On the other hand, hominin just refers to us and our direct ancestors. So, basically, if I said, "I'm from the United States" that's correct, but if I said, "I'm from Ohio" that's also true, but more exact.

But probably you already knew all that. ^^

Laura: She's more tan and brown than green, and there is a spot on her abdomen. I'll try to get you a picture soon, if you like?

Precarious - Yep, she's reddish brown. Redder around the face than the rest of her body.

Probably a creobroter gemmatus/elongatus then would be my guess. Those silly little creobroters.....

Sure I'd like a pic, whenever you get around to it!
