I have a male and female budwing mantis who I mated last night. I was waiting up until they seperated so I could put the male back to a safe place but it got too late so I just put them both back in the tank and hoped for the best. Now I know budwing mantids have a reputation for being very viscous, very active and very cannibalistic, but I didnt seem to have any problems! When I woke up this morning they were both just sitting there in the tank.
The other good news is that after sitting there for an hour doing nothing, they were mating for at least 7 hours. I dont know exactly how much longer they continued as I went to sleep and they were seperated by the time I got up, and seemed very comfortable with each other. I was especially worried for the little guy as he was using the females forearms as something to latch onto when sitting on her.
Has anyone else found Budwings to be very amicable towards each other like this?
