I have a male and female budwing mantis who I mated last night. I was waiting up until they seperated so I could put the male back to a safe place but it got too late so I just put them both back in the tank and hoped for the best. Now I know budwing mantids have a reputation for being very viscous, very active and very cannibalistic, but I didnt seem to have any problems! When I woke up this morning they were both just sitting there in the tank.

The other good news is that after sitting there for an hour doing nothing, they were mating for at least 7 hours. I dont know exactly how much longer they continued as I went to sleep and they were seperated by the time I got up, and seemed very comfortable with each other. I was especially worried for the little guy as he was using the females forearms as something to latch onto when sitting on her.

Has anyone else found Budwings to be very amicable towards each other like this?

i'd bet all species have been like that as well as all species being the opposite to that i guess it all depends on every aspect of the situation how hungry she is, how active she is, how active he is(my mantis wont even strike a cricket almost touching it unless it moves) temperature, exact size enclosure, in tank obstructions

i quite like the budwings maybe i'll add em to my list of wants

well whatever the reasons I consider myself lucky, as hopefully I can remate them after she has laid a couple of ooths.

As soon as they're laid they'll be up for sale on my site if you really are interested :)

Wow, they're beautiful! Good luck with them! (I may be checking out your website when I have the space to house mantids)

well in the mean time theres some prints available to put on your walls while you wait for the space to become available? I have a couple sitting next to me now, they're looking good :) Though I've probably spent any profits I would have made decorating my own walls. Oops
