Something i`ve never done before and dont get to be honest, so what happens?

If say someone from america has a mantis for sale and i buy it from england, do i just send the money off thats it then just wait?

I jUst thought it wAs more complicated than that but how much is the postage costs usally?

I have never bought mantids from abroad. I have bought "Deetail" knights from England. And it was just that simple. I sent the money via paypal and waited. It took only about a week for the box to get here, (New Mexico). I doubt shipping mantids would be much more complex. Shipping live mantids would be very expensive as they need to go "express" or "next day air". Very costly! But if you buy oothecae only, the cost would be much lower as they do not need to go so fast.

i bought an oothe from canada then another from Sweden

Both were a simple email to a classifieds ad on here then they gave me their paypal i paid and then waited (roughly a week i think) and including postage they were about the same as buying from an english seller (could not find any for sale hence shipping in but there were still prices on english site but with sold out next to them)

For shipping fees from US to UK, if you go with USPS express mail, the shipping fee alone is $34.75, regular air-mail cost less and varies depending on weight (around $12). But it may takes many weeks to arrive. Here is a complete list of shipping fees (parcels) to UK

Shipping live mantis abroad is always risky, i do ship over seas several occasion and even absorbed some fees when sending overseas parcel (i take $30), but do not guarantee live arrival. (All $ in USD) Shipping ootheca is different story although it might be as risky if the ootheca is not packed properly.

I frequently send mantids all over the world, however mainly Europe/US.

I always use international signed for delivery, as opposed to the airsure delivery (both post office services.) The airsure supposedly speeds up the delivery, but the usual royal mail rule applies; speed is not their thing, regardless of how much more you pay.

Signed for usually costs around £10 for a standard sized box parcel for US, and for Europe, around £8.

When I buy in from Europe, I usually pay around 8 Euros for shipping, which takes around 5 days. I don't really buy from the US, so couldn't give you any details on that.

But I have had many successful european transactions, and the items I have received have always arrived alive and healthy, (apart from nearing on winter, when last year I ordered 15 pairs of sub adult Sybilla, and all arrived dead! Which was a real shame.)

But yea, easy enough, and if you can find reliable suppliers, then Bob's your uncle ;)
