Often when I am sexing handful of nymphs to keep out of a batch I shoot for that ratio. Admittedly, I view my mantises mostly as pets to begin with so breeding isn't that big of a concern for me. When I do pair mantises special care is always done to greatly reduce risk to my boy, not because I'm worried about making sure the eggs are fertilized but because I don't want to loose my boys if I can help it.
