I've been looking around to see how everyone makes their fruit fly media, and it looks like various homemade recipes are out there!

I've only tried Carolina Biological's Formula 4-24 in the past: http://www.carolina.com/drosophila-fruit-fly-genetics/formula-4-24-drosophila-medium-blue/FAM_173210.pr?catId=&mCat=&sCat=&ssCat=&question=formula+4-24

It's fast and easy to prepare (just add water)... has anyone used this before? Any drawbacks to using instant media like this? Or anything I should add? It's already got a fungicidal agent, and doesn't require for vinegar or even yeast so I never added those. Would it help if I did add an extra ingredient or two?

Thanks!

I like the Mikhails dino's whatever the dudes name is, stuff smells great! There's a thread on here with the recipe.

It's basically masa, apple sauce, yeast ,honey and vinegar.
