Not anymore but i did raise chickens. I had silkie bantams, Rhode island reds, Buff Orphinton, Barred Rock Rooster and Some Americanas. They were awesome and some even layed blue and green eggs. The Silkie chickens are very funny looking and lay small dark eggs.

Chickens: I wish!!! I've wanted them since 4th grade, but parents always said no. However, we did get to hatch chicks in an incubator for school, and since my mom was volunteering in my class and had set up everything by acquiring the incubator and fertile eggs, we got to take them home every night for a week. Back then, I had hissing cockroaches and they were multiplying like crazy, so I took a few and fed them.

Our county also just passed a law stating that to own chickens in the county, you must pay a couple thousand dollars. And lately my mom has been saying: "I kind of want a chicken. If we had more land and didn't have to pay the county, I'd get a few. We could put their coop right ... there!"

Oh, sadness. Haha. :) Well, I have a dog and I have a new hive of honey bees, and a second hive coming in a few weeks, so I'm content for now.

As for geese... My grandparents used to have one. She was really mean. When I was little, four or five, I was feeding her lettuce. When she saw that I didn't have any more for her, she chased me to their deck, biting the seat of my little over-alls all the way!

yes, silkies are pretty. haha, they are mean aren't they? I was thinking of getting some now that Abby is gone, I never hear anyone coming to the door, with the geese they always told me someone was here! I miss that.

We have chickens. Separated according to size. Bantams are in one enclosure, and the bigger chickens are in the other. The bigger chickens consist of a mix of Delaware, Dominecker, and Buff Orpington. And yeah, we don't buy eggs anymore.

My favorite is Tito—a banty rooster seized on a cockfighting raid. I've had him for about 5yrs now.

Don't forget about Guinea fowl—have those too. They are noisy but let you know when something is amiss.

Tito!

love them all, I had guinneas too, they are so showy in their pokadotted dresses! Raised around 22 turkeys, have to get out some pics. I made an incubator out of a cooler. Had a plexi lid with light bulb in middle, and wire metal shelf on bottom, use to turn them eggs and keep water in bottom for moisture, still have the thermometers I used in them. when my youngest was 2, he saw a duck being hatched in it, and it stuck its head back inside the shell, and he said, it went back in its house, so cute!
