Sounds like you're doing okay. Every other day shouldn't hurt them, but since they're Chinese they're going to be pretty likely to feast on each other regardless of how much you feed them. Is the culture hydei flies or melanogastors?

The flies are drosophilia melanogaster almost all of the nymphs are in cups.Thepupae still hav'nt hatched this morning, but i noticed they are darkening up.I got the cultures from petco. The nymphs have had two good feedings since thusday, well gotta go got cups to mist lol.

The good news is that mels mature and hatch much more quickly than hydei flies. You'll probably be bursting with them tomorrow or the next day. I start hydei cultured weeks in advance to ensure that I'll have enough to feed! Good luck buddy! Sounds like you'll do just fine!

Yep, you need to get some Hydei...QUICK! Rebecca has them at mantisplace.com, or you could post a "want" ad on here & see who has some they can send to you quickly. Or...depending how many babies you have & if you're willing to part with them, I'd take about 6 of them & send you a big, well-started hydei culture! ;)

Laura G: Those "cultures" they sell at Petco are in TINY little vials (I've seen them), they probably aren't meant to last much longer than a few days to a week.

Well, each store stocks different kinds of cultures, because they purchase them individually. There's one Petco here that sells the vials which is how I started my hydei cultures, and other ones that sell large jars of mels. The vials they sell can last longer, but you have to remoisten the medium or substitute a small amount of it

I lucked out, both cultures were produding flies this morning. The nymps seemed happy also,so i went and bought another jar.I have cultured fruitflies before for my bettas.I had noticed before the ooth hatched that it had a moist look, but there's really no way to tell is there so you can get your cultures in place. My next thought was how long does it take before their ready for crickets

Pinhead crickets (the fresh babies) are like 3 or 4 molts away. That's about when I started my Chinese on them I think. They're a pretty aggressive eating species
