Cute! Does she actually work her way around the skewer to eat the flies?
...I wouldn't be suprised...they'll at first sink their chompers into the wood, realize its not eatable, then "groom" more of the skewer for honey and probably happen upon a fly... ;)

That's pretty neat! I love it!

Does it clean the honey off itself after it finishes? I know honey at natural concentration is too sugary for microbial growth, but I wonder if it cold pose an infection issue later on if humidity or moisture levels get too high?

Thanks for sharing this! :)

Haha anything for Nikki mantis ... Yes she goes round it to get the honey and the flies are stuck so voila :)

Actually, honey is an antibacterial substance. At about 80% water concentration, it is fine. More than that and it begins to ferment. (The honeybees seal it when it is thick enough, so, as long as your bottled honey is sealed right and you don't mix water in, it can keep for a very long time.)

Mantids normally clean themselves periodically, especially after eating - so they should be fine from infection. :tt2:

And great idea on the flys with the honey!
