My mantids have been leveling up to L5. This morning, I found 3 had. Sadly, one of them was motionless at the bottom of her cage in a crumpled lifeless mass intertwined with the shed. I picked the container to get a closer look and she sprang to life, freaked out and ran up the nearest stick. She looks fine. How often do they die after falling. Did I dodge a bullet? She is in a hard jar so there was no give upon landing.

 
possibly she saw u come into room and she was playing dead, but one never knows

They don't die when falling during a molt, but instead they just become deformed which will lead to death without help.

Thats where I was going with it. I assumed falling during shed = deformed

 
I like how you used the term "level up" :) . Anyways, the only reason that I can think of is that the branch or whatever they were holding on while molting may not have enough grip.
