I guess this would be a question for the entomologists and biologists out there, but do you think mantids that are generally a certain combination of colors can express colors that aren't typical to them? Let's take the Chinese mantis. We know they can be brown and green, a combo of the two, and different shades of both, but do you think they could express a little pink or a more yellow in their color? Another thought, right now I have a Peru leaf mantis and I've been letting her hang out on my purple heart plant for the past week and she's about to molt, but what are the actual chances that she may express a little purple or another color besides green?
Does a mutation have to occur and then the animal has to reproduce in order for that gene to "become a thing" or can mantids express wider range of color and it depends on surroundings for different colors. I am fully aware about humidity, surroundings, and species, the question is more of is it even possible for a species that is usually a specific color to even be able to express other colors outside of the typical colors. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
