Hey, I own a red spotted newt eft. He feeds on first instar mealworms and such, which is nice to control my t.molitor culture. I was cleaning tanks today, and I found a huge colony of grain mites feeding on a dead cricket in a beetle cage. I was wondering if you could use mites to feed any species of small invertebrate or amphibian? It would be less costly,  since grain mites appear out of nowhere and are unwanted.  Do they carry any toxins or anything that would kill amphibians?

I don't think that mites are toxic, but the animals you're feeding grain ites to woukd have to be pretty darn small. I would suggest it maybe for fish fry, pseudoscorpions, EXTREMELY small ant species, and so on. Springtails woukd be the better option if you were ro ask me.
