I knew this guy was getting close to molting, had been spraying through and sometimes under the lid of the enclosure at least 2x per day. Just found him like this at the bottom of the cup and as I was typing realized he was still alive :( :( (did not move at all at first so thought he was dead). Just went into the freezer. There goes my hopes of mating an exotic species!

The other one I had (which I think is a female mainly due to its size) molted fine to sub-adult the other week. Not sure what I did wrong, perhaps spraying the area it was molting from caused it to lose footing? Just saw on another thread to use a wet cottonball, may have to try that.

Not having good luck these past few months...

RIP ... sometime is like that ,,,, I spray 1-2 time a day .. If i know they are going to molt ... but Mismolt still happens sometimes ..

Thanks for the replies everyone. Not sure if they are pictipennis or gemmatus HG.

Also had one of my chinese mis-molt today but it was the only the legs which got stuck, resulting in seemingly elongated and deformed back legs. I have had this happen before but I am wondering if there is anything I should do and will it even be able to complete it's next molt in such a condition?

That sucks, one of my ghost females is in a similar condition. Thankfully she's subadult so she should fix herself in the next molt. Make sure she can climb safely and hang upside down. Also see if she's willing to catch food on her own after a day or two, if not you might have to handfeed her. Hope someone more experienced can give you better advice! Good luck!

One of my shields mismolted from L3 to L4 and had deformed, twisted back legs. He was still able to hunt and eat normally, though for the first few days, I had to hand feed him just to get him started. He molted from L4 to L5 perfectly, and showed no issues since. Now, he is L6 and is one beautiful mantis. Good luck with yours!

He put it in the freezer.. And you can clearly see there is no way it could walk.. It was half way through moulting

Yeah I know the creo is doomed. But on the second half of post 6, the OP said his Chinese mantid mismolted with just the back legs deformed, which is fixable.
