So one of my Creo males has molted to adult, I had been expecting this soon so I had moved them all to 32 oz deli-cups to allow more molting room. He was hanging from the top as usual Saturday night, but apparently decided to move to the underside of a silk flower that may have been too close to the bottom (?) when I checked in on them Sunday am he was sporting wings (yay) but then I noticed his legs are jacked up.

his two rear legs are twisted and one of two middle legs is missing, so he was hanging my front raptorials and his one "good" leg.

would it make any kind of sense to clip the curly lower part of his legs ( I would think not!)

would he be likely to be able to mate if I can keep him alive by hand feeding?

I will try to post pics when I get some time.

my other male I due to molt soon also so I think I will remove the silk flower to make sure he has alot of headroom.

as nice as it may look, adding silk flowers and other stuff that can alow a mantid to molt too close to the bottom should always be avoided.

once adult, there is no fear, so make it look nice.

while he may mate, I would not do so if you have other males. treat him like a wounded pet and he will make you happy for a few months.

Same thing happened to one of my cilnia females.

She was hanging too close to the floor, so her bottom half was actually resting on

the floor when she was drying out. So, she is somewhat deformed but her raporial

arms are fine, so she can still get her own food.

Your male may have a more difficult time mating, but as long as he has 2 strong raptor

arms to hold the female, he should be okay.

I wouldnt do any clipping of legs.

all the same i gave him honey on a toothpick that night, he was gone by the time i got home from work.

but his brother molted fine today...when I first came home he must have just molted cause his wings were smal raisin like nubs but they unfurled and dried out nicely
