I've only had them about a week so it would be tough to say based on that limited experience. But their body language sure suggests high intelligence. Just the way they look around in a very calculating manner suggests forethought and planning. Not all mantids do that. Unicorns, Gambians and Heteros do to some extent. You can see a close physical resemblance to Gambians for sure.

I've also noticed very unique and deliberate movement of limbs which reminds me of Portia jumping spiders. To my mind fluid motion is a suggestion of intelligence.

Portia is a genus of jumping spider which feeds on other spiders (araneophagic). They are remarkable for their hunting behaviour which suggests they are capable of learning and problem solving, traits normally attributed to much larger animals.

Ha-ha... She's got good taste.

All my mantids love TV. Something about all the motion pulls them in. My oldest Idolo loves to sit at the window and watch cars go by. I could put her on the other side of the room and she works her way over to the window and looks down at the street. She turns her head as they go by. I've been trying to catch it on camera but she always turns to look at me when I come over.

I think anyone who's worked with mantids for any period of time would have a hard time denying they have more awareness than lower mammals. Rodents are way more mechanical than mantids.

that would be my adult female Pictipennis. she is a junky to WOW. I gata get her off the computer some nights or she will stay up all night playing. I think she is in some high end raiding guild that keeps her playing for that one last drop she wants.

now my ghosts don't care for such stuff. even with the TV on they are quite cooperative with my camera. but my pictipennis will never look into the camera if the TV is on or a video is playing on the computer. thankfully she likes the same shows as I do.
