i was just wondering in the creobroter species does the male or female have like a little brown bump on end of their undersides and are they the fat rounded on the ends and i got like 12 nymphs from yen-saw and they all look male to me but a few have wing buds though!

You can sex them the universal way with the counting of segments. This is my first time keeping these so there may be other clues as well I am not aware of. Mine are pretty small but I sexed them easily.

so would this be a male of a female and they are both of the same mantis and though it is not the greatest image in quality but i think the male creobroter has the brown segment or bump on the end of its abdomen!

its a male i know the image is not the best but i got a half dozen of this species from yen and they all were male as i figured out the brown bump on the last segment proves this to be a male!

Are you sure they are all male?

I am 100 percent sure LOL as I got good eye sight and I looked at them all and could tell they were all the same and had the same structures so this was all that was needed to know that they were male and dont think I am at error but there is a slight chance that some may be female but highly unlikely as I said I got good eyes and took the time to look each one over and even rechecked them and thats what my final answer is "THEY ARE ALL MALE!!!!"

well thats the only way i can describe it i guess well on mine the brown stands out on the abdomen and I shown the image I posted to Yen and he thinks their male as well! Here is another image where I try to show that its a male prob not needed but figured I would show it anyways!

well I dont know if I would count that bump as a segment or not and do i count the segment under its back legs and count from those on down?LOL I should know which is whch by now but it gets harder to identify them sometimes

Yeah, it can be hard, especially when a nymph curls its abdomen. Sometimes, though, there is a clear line where the abdomen begins, and sometimes the thorax is a different color from the abdomen. And yes, count the segment immediately behing the back leg but not where the hind leg is inserted. Discount all of the "bumps" and see if you come up with two different numbers of segments. Good luck!

I could have said the same when mine were nymphs, I am 16 and have always had excellent sight, but once they were sub-adult and adult it came clear that i sexed them incorrectly.

Paul sorry I haven't been around here just been busy. Female has a broad last segment and you can be a large brown last segment. Male has small dark segment. I will post some pics between the two gender when I have the time. Looking at the segment is only one of few ways to identifying gender on Creobroter sp. Anyway, females are on your way and you will be able to see the differences when you received the female.

This is subadult male. see thicker antenna and smaller last segment.

And this is the subadult female. The opposite on antenna thickness and size of last segment compare to male.

Thanks this does help for future reference and also the way the segments are as well female has alot wider segments i think over the male from those pictures!
