My Ghost mantids have reached their final molts and as we speak one is just drying off but his wings are still unfurled. The one before this has the messed up curly wing thing going on and I wanted to prevent this one from the same issue. Is there anything else i can do to help this not occur short of what i have already done which is the misting of the tank and temp control @75-78 degrees or so room temp. The mantid is still upside down as usual should he not eventually reposition himself so that gravity can assist in pulling the wings downward? Any suggestions or is it too late?

give it an extra misting without getting the ghost wet.

sometimes, it's just too late.

I'm a beliver that mantids need to drink before molting in order to properly molt. but don't take my word on this topic.

I don't know if there is much that can be done at this point, but like Harry said, I too, believe that plenty to drink is good before a molt. I mist every day anyway, even my adults cause I don't want my mantids to feel thirsty whether they will molt or not. I just make sure that there is enough ventilation so mold wont be able to grow.

Edit: I haven't kept any species that might like it dry, I probably wouldn't mist mantids that are native to a dry area as much.

just as a practice I spoon feed my babies water until they push the spoon away and blow a little bubble when done!!!! But, still this is my first time rearing ghost mantids to adult usually my favourites are, Wide arms, both unicorns, chinese (my first wild mantid which got me into this hobby :) ) Orchids, and so on! thanks for your response!!

Crinkle wings, curly wings, zjebany wings are due to the veins in the wings not getting enough fluid/pressure to make them inflate. The insect (not just mantids) are very vulnerable during this stage, so they dry quite quickly and if they dry deformed, they stay deformed. Atmospheric moisture and sometimes water (dew) is the key.

If you don't have a humidifier, mist heavily before turning the lights out when you expect a final molt. If you do have a humidifier, don't gang it with your lights; let it run all night.

Precarious recently noted a ruptured vein at the base of one of his mantid's wings. This occurred when the wings were being inflated. Once the pressure went down a clot formed and sealed off the hole.

There is a cirle of arteries at the base of the human brain called the Circle of Willis. Sometimes, high blood pressure will cause a weak spot in one of the anterior arteries to balloon (aneurism) and pop, which sometimes proves fatal. This is why I am always so kindly and sweet natured on this forum. Keep that B/P down! :D
