Hi everyone,

As winter approaches, I figured I should start taking pics while I still can. So here are some pictures:

Stagmomantis limbata female and Mantis religiosa female hanging on a wire mantis that my professor brought for me from Peru.

Hope you enjoyed!

Thanks everyone!

It's actually pretty tricky to get them close, especially if they're hungry (which mine are pretty hungry). The key is to minimize movement. I had some great models because the mantids didn't move much when I put them down (and I had to physically place them there by the thorax, not let them walk off my hand). The only mantis that was annoying was I. oratoria, but I'm 95% sure that's a trait of the species, they just can't seem to sit still. The Euros actually saw each other, but no one was willing to try and eat the other one, I prevented them from flaring up just by diverting their attention when they saw each other by either touching their eyes or gently nudging their head to distract them. A lot of times mantids are more concerned with their new environment than fighting each other. Not until they settle down do they start really paying attention.

Alex, I'm pretty sure they're not fertile. I had two females and both of them were calling ever since I've got them. One of them died, as if it died of old age, and this one will most likely do the same. If by chance I get an ooth and it hatches, I'll let you know.

[insert "subtle" plead for a S. limbata adult male]

Lol yeah, teaching me Indonesian  I think I'd need P. medioconstricta to really help me out though.
