I just had a small hatch overnight from one of my three Chinese ooths (Only 27 nymphs so far). I know most of the common stuff about nymph care, like warmth, humidity, feeding, etc. I'll be getting some fruit flies soon since they don't eat for a day or two after hatching. Anything else I should know?

They will disappear quickly like a bag of M&M's, since their favorite food is Chinese, lol. So separate them off into groups, as many as you can do or have deli's for if you want to have more than a few left in the end, there will only be one left per deli or cup, the strongest/fastest/hungriest in each.

Congrats on your Hatch!

Thanks. I'll be separating them very soon (Probably buying more deli cups on Monday). I know very well how aggressive they can get as soon as they hit L2. :)

Space, space, and more space. This is one of the most active species out there, especially at L1. Losses are staggering in a net cube, but are reduced tremendously when in a huge tank with plenty of sticks/cardboard/plants for surface area.

I've noticed that. I got a bunch of L1's and put them all in a net cube. I figiured this would be easier, but i've lost about 1/3 of them from mismolts now. Why is this?

I know Chinese are harder to keep than some people think, I know I've had many, But I also keep a Large amount of Idolo Nymphs L1-4 in net cages and have had only one mismolt in about 2 months out of well over 1,000 molts combined, so I don't think it's the net cages, it might be for lack of enough misting for them to take in fluids for the molts? Plus the flies they eat are fed pure honey(no water or anything else added)for a day first which in turn makes the flies very juicy!

I'm only talking about nymphs here not L5's or up which need more RH and misting to drink. I only have one layer of paper towel in the bottom of the net cages nothing else and they thrive in 85-90 degree with 40-50% humidity conditions.

When you mist it's to get them wet so they drink off of themselves or a near by branch or other object, not just to raise the RH, if they don't have enough water in their bodies they WILL mismolt almost every time, so I mist them directly(even if they get MAD) 1-3 times a day and more won't hurt.

Idolo are easy mismolters so I think this information should help for those with the problem, so you can call me lucky or take this info and apply it?

Thanks for all the help. I now have 73 nymphs in two large cages (This is one of those hatches that takes a few days).

All mine are like this. I had about 100 hatch the first day. The next there was about 90-100. The very next I had next to nothing (maybe one or 2 I guess?) then the day after that 5 or so popped out. Hatching can take some time.

Exactly. Only two hatched today but I'm busy enough with the 74 I have now. They're separated and eating FFs today.
