just was wondering who has or had cuttlefish i just got 20 or so eggs and can't wait for them to hatch out, they are the dwarf kind getting to 3" to 4" long.

I've only seen cuttlefish in aquarium displays. I think they are probably among my favorite forms of sea life! I'm jealous!

Oh! Snap! It never occured to me you could keep cuttlefish as pets. I always thought they were hard to keep alive in captivity. Please post up some pics when they hatch. How long do thses guys live for?

Never knew it either. Had no idea there were small ones like that.

I saw an educational program where scientists were training cuttlefish with bits of food. It was said that they are smarter than previosly thought. I think that they are super beautiful and cute.

They are.

i will post pics of them as soon as they hatch don't want to stress them out by a light flashing at them. from what i have read about Sepia bandensis (dwarf cuttlefish) they are one of the easiest types of cuttlefish to keep its going to be hard for the first few weeks thou as any change in water Q will kill them. FYI i just found they have a toxic bite just like all squid and octi. but to what extent i don't know never herd on the news that a cuttlefish has claimed a life.

I was once bitten by a small squid, it could have been a cuttlefish. I was young and don't remember exactly what it looked like. It was so cute that I picked it up from the pile of things brought in by the net. It bit me in the middle of my palm, it is not easy for most creatures to do that! I remember that it hurt like the dickens, but I don't remember getting sick or any other symptoms. It was just very painful for a while.

Yeah, I had never thought that you could easily keep cuttlefish, either. How large is your aquarium, and what are you going to feed them? On the issue of the toxic bite, I understand that they are not toxic, even the "flamboyant" cuttlefish, to humans. You made a good point about how unusual it is for a creature that size to zap you in the center of your palm, likebugs. The reason that it could do so was that it didn't bite you with its toothy jaws, but rather pecked you with its sharp little beak, a feature that it shares with octopuses.

And speaking of octopuses, which rhymes with "rhinoceruses, isn't it time for this again?

I thought so! :D

I saw the little beak before I was bitten. I set it on my other hand anyway, oops that wasn't smart. The beak is like a parrot's beak but, razor sharp. The tentacles can also have chitinous teeth in the sucker things, I have seen them on larger cephalopods.

i have them in a 29gal SW tank right now when they do alittle bit of growing then i can move them in my 150gal. as for food right now i don't have to worry about that since they are still eggs  but they need live foods like myis shrimp, ghost shrinp hermit crabs. etc
