my 8 month old male mantid Alex died of an infection now out of 200 mantids i have 2 :helpsmilie: :'(

 
Not too unusual actually depending on species.

 
I agree with the other's that's not too bad. Really young mantids die a lot, otherwise there would be absolutely swarms of them outside. The outdoors would be a danger zone because there would be so many mantids that where every you touched one would grab your finger.

Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration. But still, considering the two remaining are eight months old, that's not bad :)

I am shocked! I thought it was much less.I have heard that they die like that because people move them around and that they are very sensitive to that so many die.
