Dead Orchid Mantis

Hello, I just got one of my mantises back from shipping after a member tried to breed them. One of the females that was bred had diarrhea after the member fed my mantis a worm and from then on. She was shipped back to me and was dead in the mail. The smell was putrid and the mantis looked almost black and pretty dried out. What possibly killed her, parasite from the worm possibly, and is it possible for a mantis to look this dark after only 2 day shipping. To me, it looks like she has been dead for over 4 days.

This orchids body must have been exposed to extreme heat or cold to get this black. Did the mailer freeze it before shipping? Also when you say worm do you mean an earthworm?
