Double Trouble

It seems I have a case of sibling rivalry going on in my house. This morning I woke up to not one, but two brand new Creobroter pictipennis oothecae. Both Pandora and her sister Tempest decided to lay their first ootheca at the same time.

Tempest chose a lovely branch.

Meanwhile Pandora went with the lower part of a plant. Don't tell Tempest but I think Pandora's is a touch larger.

I guess we won't know who won the contest for sure till they hatch. Speaking of which, anyone want some Creo oothecae? (lol, Those went faster than I was expecting. Keep your eyes peeled though if you are interested because I'm sure the ladies will be popping more out in the future.)

The girls promised me they would take care of their nymphs but no sooner did they lay than they abandoned ship. :helpsmilie:

Hahaha I know some of the members on this board are constantly getting fertile oothecae but since I only keep a couple mantises at a time it is not often I end up with two adults of the same species but varying genders to breed.

They both seem rather pleased with themselves. They are also both hoping and fluttering around like young nymphs now that they have lost all that weight.

Both of my girls laid another pair of ooths back to back. What I find interesting is they also chose nearly the exact locations again. I guess nothing encourages the ooth laying process like some friendly competition from your sister.
