My c. pictipennis shed last night. This morning I discovered that she had drastically damaged eyes and is quite blind. Is this a molting issue or some sort of infection?

That happened to one of my girls. Her eyes were damaged after a molt, then she molted again and had scar tissue on her eyes as an adult. The damage was caused by I dont know what.

I had to hand feed her but she lived a long life quite well.

"I don't know what" sounds pretty dangerous. Can you give some more details on this type of event as I have never seen it?

I am only guessing but itvmight have been one of the curly lights. Others here have mentioned them as damaging to mantis eyes. I now try to find the old light bulbs to use near my mantids.no more eye damage.

Interesting idea but I do not use CFLs. I use 55watt UVA reptile heat lights though this particular enclosure is relatively far from the lights as the creos are fairly temperature tolerant. CFLs do not give off much heat and often have very low CRI meaning your enclosures and mantises look awful.

I was kidding with that comment. I doubt lightbulbs have anything to do with damaged eyes given the fact that a wild mantis will always have a portion of its eyes always pointing directly to the sun. It's true that CFL's generate UVs but the sun's emissions are way higher.
