This is my first foray into raising HFs as feeders. They've done ok through an initial hatch. I've smeared small amounts of:

1) honey/peanut butter

2) bran cereal mixed with milk, honey and a tiny bit brown sugar (sorry Mick)

3) small amount of moist cat food (beef/salmon)

After 2 or three days, the container has developed a distinct yeasty smell. Very much like sour beer. And -- the flies are alive, but very lethargic and stumbling around. Not flying (as they had been a day or so ago).

Do you think this is a reaction to ingesting fermenting food?

Sounds yummy I am coming over for fly dinner. I only give my flys honey... They are really active, not lethargic, hmmmm peanut butter cream ale? If they are "drunk" would that carry over to Ponder?
