Ok i have a female carolina mantid 5 and 1/2 inches and i think she laid eggs. I caught her and then about 3 weeks later shee laid them. it looks like an oothcae but im not sure? would they still be fertile her being alone this long? ive had them for about a month at 70 degree temeture and nothing yet. do mantids sometimes just pooh?

First, you need to give a proper description on what the "ootheca" looks like. How long is it, is it wide or narrow? Is she an adult female? If not she didn't lay an ootheca. A picture would be nice! :p

Oothecas generally take 2-3 months to hatch but depends on the species and the temp you keep the ooth at.

If your female is wild caught then there is a big chance she was gravid. If she was a captive then there is probably no chance it is fertile.

Second you should introduce yourself in the Introductions forums, and lastly this is the wrong section to address ootheca problems/identification. However I'm sure one of the mods will be kind enough to move it and we all make mistakes so no worries about it. ;)

I moved your post. It did not belong in the breeder feedback section. Also, please introduce yourself in the introductions forum.

If it looks like an ootheca it probably is. Keep it at room temps for a couple months and it should hatch.
