How would this go if i housed a ghost mantis in a 8x8x12 cage in an office enviroment? i have no windows for sunlight, but we do have you know, these flourescent lights, (do i need a personal light for this mantis?) and the temp in here is just room temp, I live in San Diego, CA. Weather here is nice. I just want a mantis here at my work desk, thought it'd be cool to have. :D

Thanks for all replys, i just dont wanna mess up on mantids,

i dont liek to buy things and have them "break" either haha.

im kinda conservative i guess.

AND i dont wanna kill mantids

they are tooooo cool

If you are worried about them being cold, remember you can put them on top of a radio, protable tv if u have one in the office, near a light, or copier, or pc harddrive. All these give off heat. ;)

mine actually seems to like watching tv lol...along with the heat
My ant mantid like watching too! Whenever I feed her in front of the TV, she stares at the TV. When I move her to another place in the room. She changes position and stares at the TV. She likes the heat of my computer that I'm using now. :D

hehe that's good to know. My office gets about 74F max. kinda far from 80F. But i just hope the enclosure should just get warmed up by the air from my comp. I guess mantis's love watchin tv haha. maybe my mantis's will just watch me work all day. haha.

mine also like the tv but they turn it off when there are certain programmes on they dont like LOL!

I wouldn't get any work done if I kept any in my office...

Some of mine are kept mostly under flourescent light...and there seem to be no ill effect.

haha

i know i just look at them instead of work. i'm suppose to be shipping anitbodies and conjugates out for medical research.

shows how much of a slacker i am. haha im jk. =P

Right now i am a proud owner of 2 orchid nymph in my office. i'm takin them home for the weekend though. the male is funny, it's hanging upside down, he's not been eating lately, and when he's hanging upside down, he got one of his back legs stretched out and not holding onto anything. could he be moulting?

any help welcome =)

Probably. Is he acting less active than usual? Try putting down his back leg onto the lid of the container. He will have a better chance of molting without complication with all his legs holding onto the lid.

Only thing I was going to add is since it is an office, find out if they spray any poisons or such to kill off pest insects. If so find out where and when, so you can make sure your bugs aren't there or placed around freshly sprayed areas. Outside of that just make sure there isn't anyone you think who has something against you or insects and would harm them after hours. You would hope not but some people are sick enough to do those kind of things.

whoa......

those thoughts have never entered my mind,

I'm a friendly person at work, and no one really hates insects =p

But ty very much for your concern. I'm sure that we dont have pesticides, just rat traps. hehe.

=P
