I don't know what species or order we're talking about but there are many types of eucalyptus and most landscape species are aromatic types that are useless or harmful as food. You're almost certainly better of tring to locate oak or blackberry.
Yeah, great for the sinuses. I always get confused by trees, particularly ornamental ones, but I think that a lot of the Eucalyptus trees planted in CA around 1850 to provide wood for fuel are the blue gum, Eucalyptus globulus. They are now considered an invasive pest, but they look great and are common in Yuma. These are non-aromatic and quite safe for phasmids (provided I've got the ID right
). Here's a link to an excellent German phasmid site that gives instructions on how to provide a food staple for yr phasmids:

The second plant that he mentions, Laurus nobilis is the bay that was used to make the Roman laurel wreaths* and is also available in the U.S.
*Just for you, Lemmiwinks, because I know that you enjoy this stuff, I was going to mention that Pope's couplet from "Elegy to the Memory of an Unfortunate Lady":
Or, if you needs must write, write Caesar's praise:
You'll gain at least a Knighthood, or the Bays.
and that yr English teacher is only telling half the story when he says that "Bays" refers to the position of Poet Laureate. In fact, Pope was really making fun of the then incumbent, Colley Cibber who was a hack, and envied and despised by Pope. However, I think that this is somewhat off topic and so I decided to leave it out.
