I was feeding my female orchid some flies today when I noticed a red mark on the side of her face and wondered could this get any worse or is this the black death disease that was talked about before. So heres some pictures showing the mark though they are kind of blurry but you can see the small red blemish on the side of her face and I just hope it dont turn out to be the black death. Flies and a moth were the only things I been feeding her since she just molted a few days ago so I dont know if that would cause this facial anomaly.

Maybe it's dried guts  because in the pictures ive seen before, the disease is jet black

Well it was not a blemish or a disease thank my lucky stars I think it was maybe a piece of a fly wing or something that stuck to her face and it looked red but it seems to be clear now but keeping my fingers crossed that there is nothing else to worry about this female has gone through a rough period losing her claw after molting and this near scare but she seems to be a fighter!

I've had my mantis for three weeks and when I first got him he had a jet black spot and it looked like it was in his face not crud on the surface. Can any species get it and do any with it pull through?

My experience with the Black Death is that it's an excretion coming from their mouth and their (what do you call it?) waste portal, which is quite foul smelling. When it comes, death comes quickly so I think you are o.k. She may have vomited from overfeeding, my Religiosas shake their head on the occasions they have vomited, theirs was a brownish color.

She sure is pretty!
