Fear or Crazy?

My Female orchid mantis arrived a couple of days ago when i opened the container she crawled on me and had a walk around my arm, but she is now in her glass jar and this morning i picked it up and she starte jumping around like a pinball bouncing all over the jar

the first night i had her i opened the jar lid and she had one jump from one side to the other

is this her thinking i am a predator? or is she mentally unstable

heha, mine did that when i first got her too, just got her a few weeks ago, shes settled down now. yeah seems to be a last minute defence manouvere, they're crazy! running straight into a wall's not a smart move

so she is likely to calm down you think?

the speed she goes at and the fact she appears to bounce off walls i been a bit worried she will hurt herself and also it will make opening her container risky to feed her as she may come flying out

How are you picking her up? I don't generally handle my mantids but if I have to, I coax them to walk onto my hand or a stick.

only picked her up the once and she was foine she was in her cup that she was delived in and she walked to the top and i put my fingers in front of her which she grabbed and walked on.

she was fine then, she is doing the jumping in her jar when i picked the jar up

Sometimes they just freak out. Nothing to worry about.

My male creo everynight does the same thing and sometimes he will run around like it was indy 500 lol I think its funny to wach him do this. :lol:

well i managed to pick the jar up before without her going crazy although she was stood on the floor and lay down when i picked it up
