Today was the day when I tested first time my new fly jar.

I made fly culture to this seasoning jar. When I start feeding, I just change to sprinkle cap on it (it has a mesh normally).

And it works like a dream! Cap is quick and easy to open and close, just sprinkle flies and close it. No escapers.

Why I haven't do this before?

Indeed they work great and is how many fruit fly cultures are sold. The only drawback is the fly medium has to be rather dry or it can slosh on the container side and kill the flies when pouring them out.

If you go through many parmesan cheese containers (the plastic Kraft style ones) they work great too. They also are handy for feeding springtails, crickets, isopods, etc any dry ingredients. ;)
