This is not an easy question to answer, as I think it depends on the individual mantises. Mine both seemed open to males (no aggressive attacking) at 2 or 3 weeks. I was able to leave the male and female together in the same cage with no issues, and they were both fully aware of the other. In fact, they were just hanging out like old friends, facing each other in the cage for days before the male finally mounted the female. However, I tried to re-breed my one female a month later, and as soon as the male was in the cage, she looked at him like pray, and he almost lost his life! This is the same male who was her buddy at 3 weeks! On the other hand, my Gongy females have always seemed upset with the males whenever they mounted them, no matter how old they were! Mine have all been adults for several months now, and still the males and females don't ever seem to act interested in each other, even when living in the same cage for weeks at a time! I have one male who I have repeatedly put on the back of both females, and no matter what he just climbs right off. They drive me nuts! LOL. So even though I haven't had your same problem with my orchids (luck I suppose?) I can understand your frustration!
