You're right! We are part of the Great South West and share a border with New Arizona (formerly Mexico) to the south and Western Arizona (probably to be called "California" if they ever achieve statehood), to the west.

One of our major industries is smuggling goods (people, cocaine, "Mexican mud") across the Rio Grande, but in the 1850's, there was a a lot of smuggling of exotic mantises across the Colorado River to gold-rich miners on the west coast.

The river is fordable at Yuma, and local Indians (Yumans) would wade across the river at night, carrying their precious mantid cargo. Unfortunately, it was also a great spot for an ambush by a rival tribe (InYumans) and many Indians and mantises were lost. Indeed, by 1855, three species of locally raised mantises and one Indian tribe had suffered stochastic extinction.

And you won't see that in Wikipedia!
