I finally bothered to collect field crickets and start a 10 gallon tank. The substrate is sand, but in that I have a small plastic tub buried, It is more sand, but the sand in the tub I keep lightly moist. I had intended to remove the tub for incubation, as it's purpose is for egg laying. But I did not bother, and now I have hundreds, possibly over a thousand tiny first instar field crickets and they are ADORABLE!
They are not largely suitable as feeders, but I just really really like field crickets.
