Actually, the mantids took 11 months to become adults...incubation was ironically only 19 days  I am actually waiting for my almost 3 week due VERY gravid female to lay anohter ooth...should be anyday now :)

Yen, they love smooth sticks...they are always running sideways on them in an attemp to hide!! lol

Yes, it looks similar to your Tarachodes sp. because it is Tarachodes sp. (I suppose it is IGM Nr. 42, Tarachodes "slim")

Females of the genus Galepsus do not have these two tubercles/spines on their prothorax/pronotum.

Cheers

Ok guess it is Tarachodes sp. ! lol I was just going by what Yen told me a long time ago:)

Now I have to fix my signature lol

P.S. Can a mod please change to title to the correct sp.? Thanks!

My breeding stock is oriinally from you Yen:) I must of oten something mixed up somewhere lol

Can the L1 Tarachodes sp. eat fruit flies? I will be introducing food tomorrow and the fruit flies look kinda big for these tiny little guys (with even tinier raptorial arms)

Thanks!

Ah ok AB, that must have been a while ago. I really thought you have lost them as i haven't heard from you for a while about these Gambian bark mantis.

I pulled out the old album on these mantis and found some pics of them. The hatchling are able to handle small fruit flies no worry. They are greedy bunch too and eat a lot. Believed by the time i sent them to you they are at least 4th or 5th instar. THe ooth took 2-3 days to hatch for me, about a dozen on the first day, follow by dozens of it the next day to a total of around 60 nymphs. All the best with them AB.

Yen I agree with you I believe that when you sent them to me they were 4th/5th instar.

I love this species...one of my favorites...but they can be really annoying, when you know you have about 40 and you can only find 10 after looking for 20 min. They are VERY good at hiding (they will flatten teir tiny little bodies on a stick) and the only way to find them all is to mist them...then they come out of hiding :D (when they hide they are nearly invisiable)
