finaly found my beetle

Well i finally found my eastern hercules beetle. I have been living in delaware for almost 14 years and have looked and looked and never found one. I was going to pick up some dart frogs from a friend and stopped at a gas station to fill up. well i happened to look down and what did i se right next to the pump but a female eastern hercules beetle, at first i thought now was has to be dead. lo and behold she was alive. I will post some pics tommorrow when i take some. just had to share my excitement.

Yeah, I find them in gas stations. Usually females. I do not have any fermented wood dirt for them to lay eggs in! I also found a female Phileurus truncatus last night and it might need the same type of dirt.

I never miss stopping at a gas station in a rural area or a rest stop. Great places to catch bugs! She probably going to drop some eggs for you if you put her down on dirt too.

Do Dynastes tityus lay eggs in any type of dirt? Do they not need special rotting wood mixed with dirt and leaves?
