I am happy to report that my first attempt at raising and breeding a species outside of the natives is going well. This is also the first time I've raised a mantis starting at L1 (Cilnia humeralis). My L4 budwing nymphs are doing great and are currently feeding on small roaches. Some of the wide arms have molted and a few have been very inactive lately. I'm sure they're preparing for a molt. The only thing that worries me is the fruit fly cultures I have are very small and I fear they might run out. Other than that, they are all very healthy and doing well. I am also waiting on a North African grass mantis ooth to hatch out. It's a tiny ooth and I can only imagine how small they'll be when they first peak out and greet the world.

To culture them, you just dump some mashed pototatos mixed with yeast and sugar, then throw some fruitflies in. At least, that's what I do.

Just wondering, how long does it take before your mixture gets moldy?
