In the case of specific milliped research, more than two decades went into the millipeds in captivity text (not including any extra years of basic milliped husbandry nor Hoffman's more than half a century of course). The species itself (the main topic) was first seen by human eyes in 2012. This was not the case of a new species recognized in old collections (as so many discoveries these days) but rather something that never entered museum holdings prior.
