So now that I'm down to one Hierodula Membranacea, I'm buying another one for breeding. But, I've never been able to determine Fluffy's gender. I'm sure there are plenty of you here with more experience with that matter than I am. So here are some pictures I just took, once I know Fluffy's gender I'll go ahead and order the mantis Fluffy shall mate with. I see wing buds so it shouldn't be long until adulthood is reached.

When I put the top back on Fluffy ran back to the top of the cage, but why??

@Benayla To correctly determine gender the abdomen segments on the bottom side/underneath must be counted (all the photos do not show those segments and are blurry). Rick has a guide here, and the other common guide is here.

Guessing purely by the abdomen shape however, strongly suggest it is a female. ;)

That is where all mantids spend the majority of their time, and where they "feel" the most secure, as they are more defend-able and able to watch their surroundings on the lid.
