These will be freshly made upon order. Started cultures may also be available in limited quantities. These are made without methylparaben, using cider vinegar instead, so the cultures produce faster!

Flightless D. Melanogaster or D. Hydei - $6.50 for one or $5.00/ea for three + $5.00 shipping (single) or $10.00 shipping (three-pack) You can mix & match both kinds of flies, if you want...and you can also order bulk medium for $4.00/lb (no methylparaben in it.) These prices are for forum members only!

I'm also offering a "starter kit" with your choice of fly culture, 1 lb of medium (+ yeast packet) & 2 extra cups with lids, plus instructions, for $10 (+ shipping). This is a great way for a beginner to get started culturing fruit flies! (Additional cups & medium are available on the website.)

Also, I have Blue Bottle spikes & pupae (and also housefly pupae) available!! (BB $2.50/100, Housefly $1.50/100...see site for larger sizes, or PM!)

Thanks!

Is the starter kit something that I can buy now and refrigerate until I need it to start producing flies? I am a former enthusiast just getting back to things now and anticipating my receiving an ooth.

Thanks,

Rich

Not exactly. It would be a culture of fruit flies (your choice as to which type), a 1-lb bag of medium with yeast packet, & 2 deli cups with lids (for the next few cultures you make.) It's just basically for someone who only needs one culture at a time, but should last several months. I don't think you can refrigerate fruit fly cultures...at least, I never have.

If it's something you won't need for awhile, it will be a week before the new culture is producing and it will last about 4-5 weeks after that. You can make your next culture at around the 3-week mark to keep the supply going until you need to use them.

I don't always have nymphs to feed fruit flies to, but I keep the cultures going for when I DO need them!

If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me!
