Fruit fly Culturing?

I read the topic on fruit fly culturing but i'm still wondering: if I leave a fruit fly culture out for a week or two without feeding them to my mantids, will they last longer? or will they die after a few weeks?

They only live so long, so they will lay eggs and the adults will die off and u will have new babies as long as the medium if viable.

It will last longer if u have few adults in the culture but still producing a lot of individuals.....it will run out faster if u just leave it with the 1,000's of flies eating, reproducing, and dying...

I find I never feed off the entirety of a culture. It starts to smell like death long before its out of flies, and I usually get rid of it around then
