Hi,

I have a 1 yr old female ghost mantis. The past month or so, I noticed a spot on her left wing near the end of her abdomen that looks off. I took a picture (here: http://imgur.com/a/ZxiSz) but that can only go so far when it's small and she's weird looking anyway. It's only on one side and looks like a tiny clump of dried mud. Today I noticed it was a little bigger so I moved her to a container with no substrate, just a paper towel, so I can keep down humidity. I live in Arizona and am worried about dryness so might have overcompensated.

I read a source that advises feeding her honey. I've done that once or twice before and will try again. I was also thinking I'd see if i could swab some honey directly onto the problem area. I think it won't do any harm if it's not fungus, and if it fungus I hope the honey would dry it out.

Wondering if anyone has had fungus that looks like this as I've read it's usually black? And wondering if anyone has tried applying honey to fungus with any luck.

Thanks

@sarabellum I looked at your photo, and it does not look like a fungal infection at all! It looks like either a dried piece of exoskeleton or substrate or even mantis waste collected in a clump. Have you tried gently prodding it with tweezers? What I would do is spray the problem area with a little water and gently try teasing it off with the tweezers. Fungal infections are usually black, as you stated, and not so clumpy like that.

Beautiful mantis, by the way! :D
