Just a couple of snap shots of our famous Carnegie Lake bridges Fall spiders. These Orb Weavers (family Araneidae) annually build massive webs by the intense lights of two bridges. The bridges span Carnegie Lake, at Princeton University in central New Jersey. Given warm weather, lots of surrounding woods and the warm lake, these spiders catch large insects continuously. The webs end up like steel and these beasts grow to 25 - 28mm just the body. Many webs support 3 and 4 females. Anyone recognize this particular species?
