Do these mantids live longer than usual? I just read this off mantis place and it sparked my attention:

'A long lived large mantis. Growth is around 4". A beautiful green mantis with a large appetite. They are docile and easily will walk around on you and feed right next to you while you are working near them. They are found in India. This species is kept as a pet only and can not be released in the U. S. I find it an easy species to raise. They are best kept in the Large or Medium Cave, X Large Round or the Large Hexagon.'

If so, how long do they live? Also, anbody with experiance with giant sheild mantids please tell me what you think of them! I'm looking into getting one :)

Valida seemed to live quite awhile. Haven't seen an adult female yet, but a male I had would try to mate with my finger up until a couple days before death. Don't remember how long it was, but it was an impressive amount of time on the male's part already.

You would ask Rebecca the owner of Mantisplace, you could PM her. She probably had them bred and grown nymphs.

They live a good while, not sure the dates, but sometimes I can't get over how long a mantis lives,, I have an anthrops female, poo, cant spell today, that has lived a long time, I was wishing I had sent her to K Klaws as she likes to care for the long lived ones, not that I don't, but she would enjoy her, while I can't. So lets say a year for the sheild.....

The old lady mantises are the best. They are content to relax for days on the plants, not like these new fangled chinese nymphs I currently have. I forgot how jumpy nymphs are. I'm begining to think they have tiny springs hooked to their feet.

It's a nightmare trying to keep my baby double shields in their enclosures when I open them for misting and feeding

Add a feeding hole (small hole with sponge blocking it). I haven't had one nymph escape since adding one to every enclosure, although doesn't look very aesthetically pleasing.
