They are cute, cool and tiny. But mine drove me crazy. I just mentioned in a private message to you that I've had a nymph for a year that hasn't molted to an adult yet.

I always wanted one after seeing Henry's video some time ago. I just hope yours don't take a year like Tammy's did. that's nuts!

anyway, good luck with it.

Always what made me want some of these guys so bad...but man...didnt know they stayed so small for so long and took so long to molt...thats seriously crazy...most mantids are lucky to live that long their whole life...LoL

I guess I will be keeping fruitflies for quite some time...

this little guy is no where near ready for a housefly much less any of the bluebottles.

Congrats! Maybe you will luck out and get the pink and blue spots. Yours looks to be at least L3.

I took these of a fresh hatched nymph last week. Completely clear but you can see where the spots and markings on the back will be. If I get a chance I'll edit more and post. Took some of the blood filled body after first meal. Truly crazy species if you've got the patience.

The point & shoot probably decides the setting based on available light. If you go through the trouble of creating a really well lit area it won't have to hold the aperture open as long to gather enough light. That would go a long way in reducing the exposure time, thus reducing motion blur (caused by you or the mantis moving). Give it a try and I'll bet you get more usable photos. ;)

Hey put me on list for some of these babies or ooths if they ever get that far, gotta get some for hubby!
I pretty much failed with this species. After waiting for a year for adults the female laid only a few ooths then stopped. Only got a handful of nymphs. Hopefully enough to breed another generation.
