So yesterday i started working on separating each big ooth to a number of containers. I put a very tiny drop of glue on the surface of the enclosure and then i put the ooth on it and pressed for a minute but it didn't stick to the enclosure, i tryed again and same result. Then i realized that the ooth was completely absorbing the glue drops!

I switched to a less liquid glue and it did the trick but i'm afraid i've just destroyed an ooth with the liquid glue drops... What do you think?

I've read that glueing ooths was fine so is it really fine?

For ooths...I use hot glue only

Elmer's glue and others like it can soak/drip in to the ooth.

take hot glue and make a dab on the lid, wait a min for the glue to cool then stick the ooth to the lid of the container.

I also use only hot glue.

I put a dap on the surface where I want the ooth, let it cool for a few

seconds, then press the ooth into place, hold it a minute and blow on

it until the glue dries.

If you aplied a thin solvent based, or cyano glue directly to your ooth, and it sank in, you may well have

killed the eggs!! :(

I'm afraid the 1st glue i used was the cyano glue :(

The other i used has Toluene and Hexane, not as dangerous as the other but still.

I had no idea when you talked about glue it was hot glue...

use a low heat glue gun when gluing them, and I really dont think you hurt the eggs, try to hatch it anyways, another way to do it is to sew the ooth on, I sew either around it or just catching some of the ends of the ooth.

Toluene and hexane are both very potent and dangerous solvents.

They are both very carcinogenic.

In the US, you need to use special OSHA approved venting equipment to use them.

Get a drop on your finger, it will remove all the fats and oils and turn it white!!

It is also way less viscus then water, so it likely soaked into the ooth (depending on

how much you used). Since you said you used 3 kinds of glue, one drop each is

3 drops.

I would bet $$ your ooth is dead!! Sorry :(

I use a hot glue gun with those non toxic sticks. You shouldn't use super glue or anything like that.

I used 2 kinds of glue but 2 drops were from super glue because at first i didn't know why the ooth didn't stick to the enclosure. I only understood what was happening with the 2nd drop. Theres nothing to do now but wait

Remember this thread? I came to say that the glue had no harsh effects on the ooth. Both the ooth with glue and 5 other ooths in 9, are currently hatching. The Ooth itself is truly a master piece of defense!

Very cool, thanks for updating.
