I came home to find that my male ghost was eating the female he was supposed to be mating with. He had eaten almost all of her thorax, so I had to freeze her because she was not going to make it.  I'm so sad. She was my favorite.?

Sadly just checked on our ghosts and found a close to adult mantis esting the other mantis who became an adult a week ago. His head is gone. :(  i may not keep mantises next year. The culprit was well fed. It has totally disillusioned me about ghost mantises not being aggressive.

I am so sorry! I guess nobody told you that ghosts can get aggressive when they are adult! I keep all of my ghost pre-sub and older in seperate cages.

NEVER SAY YOU WILL NOT KEEP MANTIDS NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

Did not realize adult and subadult ghosts could be aggressive to each other. Will keep them separate from now on. It was the subadult male (aka Killer) who ate the head off the newly adult male (Cutie).   :(  i put poor Cutie in the fridge and today he goes into the freezer so he wont suffer more. It is very hard to do that as he was a great mantis. I am having trouble liking Killer ghost mantis now but am trying to forgive him.
