Hey everybody. I've been away for a while due to my laptop being repaired (I'm on the iPod now so please overlook mispellings). Well long story short, my teacher is giving me her chilean rose haired tarantula on monday. She's had it for four years, so I figured adding an arachnid to my collection would be cool, not to mention I still have months to go before my mantids hatch. Anyway, I researched the spider and found that females livke about five times longer than males. I also know hat sexing these beasts is extremely difficult especially for inexperienced people (me). So is there anyone with experience with these? I'll upload pics once I get it. Thanks a lot, now I gotta go, I hate typing on this thing.

The males have a strikingly pink carapace when adult and are slender with longer legs. They also have tibial spurs on their front legs

for mating. Females are stocky and not as brightly colored as adult males. I have a 8 year old female they are great pets.

Thanks guys for the help. I got the tarantula yesterday, so far so good. After extensive research on sexing, I've determined that it is a female. She hasn't eaten yet which I'm not concerned about. I've taken pics but I can't post yet due to no computer. I have a question though, what's normal behavior for these guys? I know they usually sit around, but this one does it out in the open rather than in her burrows. Thanks again.

Update: She's been doing fine. She hasn't eaten since I got her but I'm not concerned. I do have crickets though just in case. The other night I saw her cleaning herself which was really cool. Anyway, here's a link to pictures I posted on another thread. I tried to take a good pic of the underside, but I didn't want to stress her out. Confirmation on the sex is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
