 Greetings!

I am a 15 year old male from Virginia! Recently I have gotten into the mantid hobby as I find them very interesting. I am hoping to soon get my own pet mantid when I move into my new house! Last summer I saw some nymphs on my porch! They took quite a liking to my succulents that I had outside, and they were absolutely adorable! I am excited to be a part of this community so I can learn more about these amazing insects.

Welcome from a fellow Virginian! ;)  Falling in love with mantises on your porch...that's how it all starts....LOL

Sarah K -- That's exactly how it happened to me (8 years ago) !  You don't find them.  They find you.

Ironically that is also how I learned to love mantids! I had a pot of succulents sitting on my porch and I guess a female mantid laid her ootheca somewhere nearby and while leaving the house I noticed that the succulents were covered in baby mantids. Quite an adorable surprise.

Yup! Exactly how it went for me too! I am really surprised how many interesting things i found on my back porch last summer, when I decided to keep a container garden there! The whole experience rejuvenated an interest I used to have when I was a kid (I used to want to be an entomologist when I grew up!  ;)  )And like I posted yesterday, the surprises are continuing this year:

I cannot wait to see what else is in store for me this summer!
