Hello all... I'm new here.... looking forward to consuming & digesting as much as I can regarding mantids....seems like a cool site.

Peace....

Welcome. You have come to the right place.

I have a wild caught specimen. I'm a tarantula & scorpion enthusiast...about 14 years in the hobby. I have over 20 different species of tarantula and owned about 5 different species of scorpion....as well as 5 American Pitbull Terriers... :) .

I've always admired mantids and I'm really enjoying my lil specimen... I set her ( I hope ) up in a lil arboreal enclosure and keep her in my tee room....it's 80-82 degrees in there. I mist the enclosure once a day and feed crix and lil wild caught hoppers that came from the excite same area in my yard as the mantis. She molted last week...thriving.

I came here to learn from the pros. What species is this...? I live in GA... I've heard Stagmomantis or Tenodera aridifolia sinensis..check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlJU5PqCwss&feature=plcp

Probably Stagmomantis carolina, I am not certain but that is what I think it is. The Chinese Mantis used to be a subspecies in the species Tenodera aridifolia but now it is a species, Tenodera sinensis. Before that it was called Tenodera aridifolia mandarinae, now it is a species, Tenodera sinensis.
